I finally managed to get my hands on the now famous Moonswatch, here are my thoughts in the Moonswatch Mission to Mercury review.

Where did the Moonswatch Originate?

Released in March 2022 the Moonswatch is inspired by the Omega Speedmaster, the first watch worn on the moon.

The Case

Coming in at 42mm this should feel a little big for the smaller wrist but fits very well on my 6” wrist.

This is partly due to the Bioceramic material but also with the lug to lug of 47.3mm and a thickness of 13.25mm make it a surprisingly good fit.

The Dial

This is where the magic really happens with this watch…

Based on the Omega Speedmaster the dial is virtually the same as its iconic counterpart.

A chronograph with three sub dials of hours, minutes and seconds the attention to detail is impressive as it matches the Speedmaster perfectly.

The dial also has the Omega x Swatch logo below the twelve o’clock but also has the Speedmaster at nine o’clock and Moonswatch at three o’clock, which works very well and does not make the dial seem too busy or cluttered.

A tachymeter around the bezel adds to the sporty element of the watch.

The pushers work and activate the minute hand which personally I like to see moving.

There has been a few reports and videos of the pushers falling off, but they seem sturdy.

Superluminova is applied to the hour markers so and works well in the dark so telling the time will not be a problem.

There is also water resistance of thirty metres.

Moonswatch Mission to Mercury Wrist ShotThe Strap

A Velcro strap with the Speedmaster logo printed on but the quality of the strap is not the best however it did wear a lot better than I thought it would.

While this is a definite weakness of the watch there now so many options to replace the original strap and give it a more personal touch.

Powered by a quartz ETA chronograph movement the watch will be accurate and the battery should last a long time.

Swatch have made this extremely easy to change yourself by unscrewing the case back which is a nice touch.

Final Thoughts

The Moonswatch certainly has divided opinion amongst watch enthusiasts but since getting hands on, I have changed my own opinion on this watch.

It is a fun watch to wear and can be worn in several situations, it certainly has a couple of things that could be improved on the main one being the strap.

The CasiOak is still the superior watch, read my blog on why I think it is  5 Reasons Why the CasiOak is better than the Moonswatch but in terms of being fun watch it has done an excellent job.

Swatch has also pulled off a masterstroke with well over a million sold worldwide, they have also engaged a younger generation of watch fans who are now starting their watch collecting journey.

The hype around this watch has people queuing around Swatch outlets worldwide.

The cost is £240 from their outlets around the country, with the availability much better than before.

The range consists of 11 watches, if you prefer your Moonswatch with a splash of colour why not check them out  Moonswatch Range
