Accurist have many classic designs, in this blog I will review one of my favourite types of watches in the form of the chronograph MB936BB.

Brief History of Accurist

Accurist was founded in 1946 by Asher & Rebecca Loftus in the London Clerkenwell District which was at the time the watchmaking capital of the UK.

A British brand with the vision to create quality watches at an affordable price with modern designs but with a hint of vintage.

They are now owned by Time products who acquired them in 2014 and now join the family which also includes Sekonda.

A couple of fun facts about Accurist and their watches.

  • Accurist were sponsors of the speaking clock for 22 years.
  • Their watches were worn by The Beatles aswell as some Royals (you do not get more British than that)

The Case

At 43mm this is not a small watch however on my 6” wrist it does not feel overly large which is due to the lug to lug of 50mm.

A tachymeter fixed bezel with silver numbers really do give this watch a nice contrast and easy to read feel with standard pushers.

Mineral glass protects the dial from scratches.

One thing that really stands out is when you turn this watch over is the case back, Accurist really have leaned into their heritage with the words “True British Design” on the back and personally I love this.

The Dial

The dial itself is black with applied hour markers and a 12 which also has Accurist text below it which is a nice touch.

Lume is applied to the hands and markers, but it is stronger on the hands but chronographs are not made with strong lume so if that is your thing maybe a diver is a better option for you.

Three sub dials of with the standard sword hands and second hand, this watch is very easy to read in the daylight which is great however with the lack of lume it will be a struggle to read in the dark.

With quite a busy dial a date window between four and five o’clock was not really needed in my opinion.

The crown is a nice size and easy to pull out and adjust and the black around the crown is also a nice touch.

It is a little picky but us watch nerds notice these things and there is no emblem on the crown which would have been a nice addition.

Accurist Chronograph Wrist ShotStrap Type

With 22mm lugs this watch originally came on a stainless-steel bracelet however it was quite a heavy and chunky, and it did feel like it was a little much.

I did however change this to a leather strap, and this has made the overall wearing experience a lot better the only issue is there is a gap between the pins and the case but if you can live with that then there really is no issue but some may find it off putting.

Adding the leather strap has also given the watch a more polished look.

Accurist Chronograph Strap ShotMovement

A reliable Japanese movement JS25 SR 621SW powers the quartz movement and with a 100 metres of water resistance this a watch you can be sure will keep ticking if water does hit it.

Thoughts

A very solid choice for a chronograph.

The bracelet is touch too heavy for people with smaller wrists, but a change of strap can easily fix this and change the look of the watch too.

This is a watch you can wear in many situations from casual to semi dressy occasions and you will not look out of place.

Accurist have leaned into the British heritage and that is something to applaud.
